Description

Get ready for a light spectacular at Glamis Castle!

Situated in heart of Angus, Glamis Castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372. This historic site was the inspiration for William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and was the childhood home or HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Her younger daughter, HRH Princess Margaret, was born at Glamis Castle.

Renowned for its rich history and famous visitors, Glamis Castle offers guided tours where visitors can explore the many fascinating stories from the castle’s 1000 year history.

Set within the Angus countryside, yet only 20 minutes from Dundee and 45 minutes from Perth, Glamis Castle also brings visitors close to nature by offering access to their beautiful gardens and grounds. The gardens boast The Italian Garden, designed by the Queen Mother’s mother, Countess Cecilia as well as a Nature Trail, Walled Garden and the atmospheric Macbeth Trail.

Glamis Castle, one of Scotland’s most historic visitor attractions, has invited visitors to “step into a fairy tale” as they launch a brand-new light show in the Castle’s gardens next month. A Trail of Tales at Glamis Castle will see the sprawling gardens illuminated in shimmering light installations which visitors will explore while discovering classic childhood stories on the way.

A family friendly event, the inaugural show will run from 4pm-8.15pm, offering visitors another opportunity to experience the castle’s spectacular grounds and gardens, but this time under moonlight.

Beginning the light show route close to the Castle and moving towards the Walled Garden, visitors will discover an array of magical installations amongst the trees including a Troll Bridge, a Peter Pan themed performance and illuminated greenhouses inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk.

While walking the trail, there will a number of refreshment stations for visitors to warm up with a hot drink or a snack. The Hub Café and Castle Kitchen Restaurant will also be open and serving their seasonal menus during the event.

Tickets are expected to sell fast!

Good to know…

The route starts  at the Castle car park and heads towards the Walled Garden before returning. Car parking is include within the ticket price.

We recommend that you wrap up for the weather and wear sensible footwear for walking on nature trails. The trail is mostly made up of hard tracks and therefore suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

There will be limited capacity with times entry to the event so make sure that you plan your visit now to be able to secure your preferred entry date and time slot.
