Discovery Point Review – Days Out Diaries

Written by our Tayside & Fife Days Out Diaries reviewer - Laura Stewart

Today we got wrapped up from the cold weather and headed out to the beautiful city of Dundee to visit the Discovery centre. Located on the river Tay you can step aboard on Captain Scott’s ship that went on the first expedition to Antarctica.

When we arrived you get to go through the museum before getting to the ship and there is plenty to do on the way! With a cinema showing a documentary, lots of hands on activities to demonstrate how the people aboard had lived and even a room full of colouring for the children to do!

With lots to see and do both Matthew and Liberty were more than entertained and actually enjoyed learning about Antarctica and the first expedition along the way. For a parent I always love an attraction that combines learning with fun activities, it’s almost as good as making hidden vegetable spag Bol!!

When we reached the ship, it was an amazing sight to be seen! It has been really well maintained and presented with figures and artefacts in all the nooks and crannies which the children loved searching out! Although it’s not the easiest attraction to access with steep steps and slippy surfaces it’s well worth the effort to see all the ship has to offer!! Just mind your head on the way down!!!

Overall this was an enjoyable morning out, which I would certainly recommend for families with slightly older Children as there’s so much for them to learn and take part in. Also as an added benefit, they are giving you a card which means you can return as often as you like over the next year and free entry to The Verdant works which is a separate attraction which we are looking forward to visiting soon!
