Millbrook Lodge Hotel Review – Days Out Diaries

Written by our Northern Ireland Days Out Diaries reviewer - Caroline Ashe

What a fantastic opportunity to dine at the award-winning Millbrook Lodge Hotel in Ballynahinch, using the current Planet Offers half price restaurant voucher. Fantastic food, great service and a beautiful location. Our family of four opted for a two course Sunday lunch, at a great price of £20 per adult and the kid’s menu individually price. Great value for money and easily the best food we have eaten out in a long time.

My husband and the kids opted for the roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings, despite eating turkey over Christmas. There were no regrets and nothing left on the plate. My daughter enjoyed it so much she wanted to drink the gravy that was left over?! I had the lamb shank, which was to die for. The meat was so tender it fell of the bone. Everything was just to perfection and the staff couldn’t do enough to assist.

We were not rushed but given the right amount of time to digest our food before dessert. My son’s dessert of ice cream covered in honeycomb and chocolate sauce was a work of art and the envy of all at the table. My daughter and I had the apple crumble which was beautiful but very sweet. You could easy share one between two as it was very rich and a small amount would suffice. Although my husband’s brownie looked small it was the right amount: it was dense and with the walnuts and toffee syrup it was also very rich.

We finished our lunch and ordered tea and coffee to let us digest our food and soak up the atmosphere, which included couples and families both with and without children. Before leaving this modern yet relaxed hotel we had a very pleasant but short walk around the grounds of the hotel, which are absolutely beautiful.
