Train to Christmas Town Review – Days Out Diaries

Written by our Cumbria Days Out Diaries reviewer - Cristina Turner

The Train to Christmas Town was a Christmas themed attraction we had vouchers for last year and it was a truly magical experience for anyone who took advantage of our 30% off discount!

The holiday ride featured a cast of storybook characters including Wabash the squirrel, Zephyr the cat and Bumblebee the bear, all heading to Christmas Town. The train arrived at the beautifully decorated Stanhope Station and here you were able to have a browse of the gift shop or pick up some sweets for the ride from the Olde Worlde sweet cabin. Whilst you waited, the children could write a letter to post to Santa Claus or hang a message on the Christmas tree.

Once the conductor shouted, 'All Aboard!', the passengers made their way outside to be greeted by carolling elves as they boarded the train to find their seats. Once people and elves were all aboard, the music began, and the train set off. There was singing, dancing and storytelling from the elves and the conductor, who went around to punch each ticket. Every passenger was given a hot chocolate and a cookie to enjoy as well.

The journey continued onto Christmas Town, where Santa Claus himself boarded the train. Each child was greeted by Santa as he made his way through the carriages, and he presented them with a special gift each.

Here’s what the Turner family had to say about their recent visit:

“So on Saturday, The Turners boarded the ‘Train to Christmas town’ at Weardale railway courtesy of Planet Radio Offers! Being honest, we had previously ridden the Polar Express train here and were a bit unsure about the change but turns out we shouldn’t have worried! Even without knowing the new story - the train ride was just as amazing, and the kids LOVED it (even us big ones too)”

“From the minute you arrive at the station there are the friendliest characters waiting to greet you... and everyone on board made an effort with every child to stop and chatter. With hot chocolate and cookies on board... festive sing-alongs, and even Santa making an appearance. The brilliant story, dancing elves and the conductor... I challenge anyone to not feel festive after riding this train! Highly recommend! The videos show how much fun we had.... as do the smiles on the photos!”
