Last Minute Easy World Book Day Costume Ideas

Running around trying to think of a last-minute World Book Day costume? Don’t worry because we have you covered with our list of easy costume ideas. There’s no sewing involved (although there may be some glue) and we’ve included lots of clever ways to re-use clothes you may already have.

1. Paddington Bear

We all know the famous, polite bear who likes to carry a case full of marmalade sandwiches. All you need for this costume is a blue coat (or blue clothes), a red hat and socks and a mini suitcase (to store all those yummy snacks).

2. Emma Jane’s Aeroplane

A book that may be not as famous as Paddington Bear, however still a great children’s book which tells the story of Emma Jane and her group of animal friends who travel the world and save the day.

This easy Emma Jane costume includes a little bit of DIY however it is super simple and easy. Just grab yourself some spare cardboard and cut out the wings of an airplane. Attach two-cylinder shapes to the wings (could be some left-over kitchen roll) and string to make arm straps.

Creating this Bob the Builder costume is super-easy and one we are sure the kids will love. You’ll need a yellow hard hat, striped/checked top, dungarees and a plastic toy set. Can we fix it? Yes, we can!

If your child is obsessed with superheroes, then this is the perfect costume. All you need is a yellow top, card and a red cape/material. 6. Captain Jack Sparrow

"I've got a jar of dirt!" Channel their inner Captain Jack Sparrow with this easy costume idea. A striped shirt, a pirate hat (follow this easy guide from Super Simple to make your own), the inner cardboard tube from some empty kitchen roll for the spy glass and some face paint. (If you have an eye patch and toy sword, that's extra bonus points).

7. Glinda, The Fairy Godmother

The most powerful and kindest witch all the land, this simple Glinda costume is sure to make your little one smile. You just need to grab a coloured dress (with jewels if you want to go extra fancy), a tiara, a wand, and fairy wings for the full Glinda effect.

What's an easier costume to make for World Book Day than a dalmatian outfit. For this, you need a white t-shirt, a black marker to create spots, and some white and black facepaint. It couldn't be simpler!
